چکیده

virus surface antigen (HBsAg) is known to promote viral replication, and when immunosuppressive treatment is stopped the return of immunocompetence can be followed by liver damage of varying degrees of severity, including fulminant hepatitis. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation of various degrees may develop in 20-50% of HBsAg positive patients undergoing immunosuppressive or cytostatic treatment (1). We report a patient with acute myeloid leukemia (M1) who developed fatal liver failure from reactivation of HBV after chemotherapy.

Reactivation of hepatitis B.

Reactivation of hepatitis B refers to the abrupt increase in hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication in a patient with inactive or resolved hepatitis B. Reactivation can occur spontaneously, but more typically is triggered by immunosuppressive therapy of cancer, autoimmune disease, or organ transplantation. Reactivation can be transient and clinically silent, but often causes a flare of disease tha...

Hepatitis B viral reactivation secondary to imatinib treatment in a patient with gastrointestinal stromal tumor.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation is a known risk in cancer patients receiving cytotoxic or immunosuppressive therapy; however, the risk associated with newer molecularly-targeted agents has not been well-quantified. Imatinib, a small molecule inhibitor directed against BCR-ABL, CKIT, and other tyrosine kinases, has been associated with HBV reactivation primarily in patients treated for chro...

HBV reactivation with fatal fulminating hepatitis during rituximab treatment in a subject negative for HBsAg and positive for HBsAb and HBcAb.

A 51-year-old man who was hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-negative and positive for anti-hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs) and anti-hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc), during rituximab therapy for chronic Lymphocytic leukemia, developed reactivation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection with hepatitis that proceeded towards hepatic failure and death in spite of lamivudine therapy. HBsA...

Fatal acute liver failure due to reactivation of hepatitis B following treatment with fludarabine/cyclophosphamide/rituximab for low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

BACKGROUND Reactivation of chronic hepatitis B in HBsAg carriers is a well known complication of chemo?therapy. The clinical spectrum ranges from asymptomatic hepatitis to fatal hepatic failure. Although it impairs the prognosis of cancer treatment, it may be overlooked due to other possible causes of liver damage. CASE REPORT The patient presented with acute liver failure after 6 cycles of r...

Reactivation of hepatitis B (reverse seroconversion) after melphalan/dexamethasone therapy for primary amyloidosis: a case report

INTRODUCTION Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation (so-called reverse seroconversion) is a rare but known complication of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, immunosuppressive therapy, or high-dose chemotherapy plus rituximab. This event is linked to a treatment-related fall in titers of antibodies to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAb) below the protective threshold level. CASE PRESENTAT...
